What does contemporary mean?
“In its most basic sense, the term contemporary art refers to art—namely, painting, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, and video art—produced today. Though seemingly simple, the details surrounding this definition are often a bit fuzzy, as different individuals’ interpretations of “today” may widely and wildly vary.”
If you say you’re opening a contemporary art gallery, you’ve opened up a timeless debate about what the definition of contemporary even is. It could be now. It could be anything that’s from the 60s and 70s onward, after “modern” became the past. What hasn’t changed is that we’re creatures that will always create.
What does contemporary mean for our town? Bedford’s newest gathering place for makers and creative enthusiasts is on the way! ElectricCoArt’s gallery will showcase regional artists. Our historic home that began with providing electricity to Bedford is now providing a new lifeblood to our town – a place to socialize and connect through creativity.
After a journey several months in the making, we are now in the final stages for our gallery’s opening! The paint is dry, the hanging system has shipped, and our lighting is ready to go. Stop by, sit down, and enjoy the collection after we’ve opened. We would love to chat with you about the artists we represent. Make sure to attend our future artist talks and visit us for Second Fridays too!
By the end of summer, you’ll be enjoying gourmet food and wine from our bistro. Who can say no to a wine and dine night at the gallery? Stay tuned to our blog to keep updated on the journey!
